Mohegan Sun has shared interest to buy out the Encore Boston Harbor gambling enterprise in Everett, Massachusetts. This news coming days after high talks of sports betting being accepted in the state of Massachusetts after realizing gains from its neighbor states in New England, more specifically Rhode Island.
The Native American’s that are running the Mohegan Sun are looking to take over the sports betting business in Massachusetts as the industry develops in the state. Considering the high interest big sports organizations have towards betting, like for instance the Red Sox, Mohegan Sun will be competing with companies such as MGM to be the first movers.
A Mohegan Sun rep stated: “If that determination finds Wynn Resorts unsuitable to hold a gaming licence in Massachusetts, Mohegan Sun is prepared to participate in a process that would assign that licence to another operator—and enter into negotiations with the appropriate parties to acquire the facility under construction in Everett..”
The corporation also mentioned “Mohegan Sun has always believed it is the best choice as gaming operator and licence holder for a Region A resort casino, and will be committed to opening the Everett facility in a timely manner should it get the opportunity.”
The firm has already had conversations with the committee around the casino and also stated that if Wynn’s permit is removed, it would certainly honour existing contracts that Wynn has already negotiated with the communities around them.
Regardless of the interest, Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria declined the suggestion of Mohegan Sun taking control of the casino establishment, and further mentioned that its arrangement with Wynn Resorts offers the opportunity to turn down the sale or accept a brand-new corporation.
He stated “Mohegan Sun is not welcome to operate a casino in the City of Everett. We made a deal with Wynn Resorts to operate a 5-star international destination resort and I will never accept anything less—certainly not a gaming parlour that would be used to protect their interests in Connecticut at the expense of our community and residents.”
Despite having these casinos operating in facilities, Mohegan would also need to operate and accept online bets to be successful. Sportsbooks such as Bovada and Mybookie already catch customers attention by having a user friendly mobile platform, making sports betting a lot easier for the customer as bets can be placed instantly. As a result, live betting can generate more bets and more customers being served simultaneously.
