- The $348 million Mega Millions jackpot has officially been claimed
- The winning ticket was sold in Virginia during the June 27 drawing
- The jackpot winner has opted to remain anonymous
The individual who secured the staggering $348 million Mega Millions jackpot from the June 27 drawing has stepped forward, yet they have chosen to keep their identity private.

Virginia is among 13 states that permit lottery winners of significant prizes to remain anonymous. In contrast, many lottery states require that winners, including those breaking records, have their names published as part of public records. This policy aims to enhance the public’s trust in the lottery’s fairness.
In the Commonwealth of Virginia, anyone winning over $1 million can maintain anonymity. The recipient of the largest lottery prize ever in the state is making full use of this option.
Mega Millions Jackpot Claimed
During the June 27 drawing, after 20 consecutive draws without a jackpot winner, a single ticket from Virginia aligned with the five white balls along with the golden Mega Ball. The winning numbers were 18, 21, 29, 42, and 50, with the gold Mega Ball as 2.
This life-altering ticket was purchased at Corner Mart Exxon, situated at 14878 Northumberland Highway in Heathsville, by Chesapeake Bay. Roughly four weeks later, the winner emerged at the Virginia Lottery headquarters in Richmond to redeem their ticket.
Opting for the one-time cash option, the winner received $155.6 million. After federal taxes of 37% and Virginia’s 5.75%, the total take-home amount is about $89 million.
The winner indicated intentions to purchase a zero-turn lawnmower. Observers in the area may start to suspect who the recently minted millionaire is!
The Corner Mart gas station earned a $50K commission for selling the winning Mega Millions ticket.
The next Mega Millions drawing will occur on Friday at 11 PM ET, featuring an advertised jackpot of $198 million and a cash option before taxes of $89.3 million. Powerball’s drawing is set for Saturday, with an annuitized jackpot standing at $565 million, a number it hasn’t reached since May 31.
Jackpocket Milestones
In related lottery updates, Jackpocket, acquired by DraftKings in 2004 for $750 million, disclosed on Thursday that a player in Massachusetts using their courier service won a $4 million scratch-off prize.
The player claimed the highest prize on the “$4,000,000 Monopoly Doubler” scratch-off ticket after purchasing through Jackpocket’s mobile app. The scratch-off ticket costs $10, with odds of winning the top prize at 1 in 3,780,000.
Jackpocket facilitates scratch-off ticket purchases via its courier service in various states, including Arizona, Colorado, Ohio, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, and Oregon.
Jackpocket collaborates with state lotteries to digitize scratch-offs. When a courier procures the ticket for a Jackpocket user, they scan both sides of it, capturing the watermarked barcode and serial number.
This ticket is then uploaded to the customer’s Jackpocket app, converting it into a digital format. Users can “scratch” the ticket digitally without needing quarters, revealing the outcome. Jackpocket automatically checks if the ticket is a winner and notifies the user, with any winnings credited directly to their Jackpocket account.
