The partnership between World of Hyatt and MGM Rewards will be discontinued starting on September 30. Existing reservations made by World of Hyatt members for MGM Las Vegas properties prior to September 30, 2023 will still be honored. Tier matching will end on July 14.

Stays eligible for earning World of Hyatt points and Tier-Qualifying Night credits are those with checkout dates prior to or on September 30, 2023. However, starting from stays with checkouts after September 30, 2023, World of Hyatt members will no longer be able to earn World of Hyatt points or Tier Qualifying Night credits,” as stated by MGM.

The largest operator on the Las Vegas Strip, the gaming company mentioned that members of the MGM Rewards program can still earn points and tier credits for stays at its properties booked through Hyatt.

Hyatt, MGM Mum on Reasons for Ending Agreement

MGM noted that the decision was made “under careful consideration,” but neither the company nor Hyatt provided any further comments on the reasons why their long-standing partnership will terminate on September 30.

Such agreements are common in the gaming industry for various reasons. Firstly, there is evident enthusiasm for travel and leisure rewards programs, including casino loyalty plans. Secondly, some hoteliers have limited presence in major gaming markets, such as Hyatt in Las Vegas.

An example of a hotel company collaborating with a casino operator on a reciprocal points program is Choice Hotels International and Penn Entertainment. Caesars Entertainment’s Caesars Rewards also has a similar agreement with Wyndham Rewards.

Regarding World of Hyatt, the rewards program may not be without a well-known Las Vegas partner for long. There are unconfirmed rumors that when Dreamscape Companies assumes operational control of the Rio Hotel & Casino later this year, Hyatt will become its new hotel partner.

Important Details on End of Hyatt, MGM Accord

For points enthusiasts, there are important details to note regarding the termination of the Hyatt/MGM partnership.

“Starting from September 30, 2023, World of Hyatt members will no longer be eligible to earn World of Hyatt points or Tier Qualifying Nights for stays at MGM Resorts destinations in Las Vegas with checkouts after September 30, 2023,” added MGM. “Therefore, stays at MGM Resorts destinations in Las Vegas with checkouts after September 30, 2023, will no longer be eligible to earn World of Hyatt points or Tier Qualifying Nights for any part of the stay.”

World of Hyatt members who matched their status into MGM Rewards from February 1, 2023, through July 14, 2023, will have that matched status honored until January 31, 2024.

For stays completed at MGM Las Vegas properties by September 30, World of Hyatt members have up to a year from the end of the stay to request retroactive tier credits.
