U2 fans heading to the MSG Sphere this weekend will face exorbitant parking prices.
Self-parking on site will cost $100, while valet parking will set fans back $125. This marks the highest parking prices in Las Vegas, where concert parking used to be free on the Strip up until seven years ago.
U2, the Irish rock band, is set to debut the $2.3 billion venue and kick off their first Las Vegas residency, “U2:UV Achtung Baby,” this Friday night.
The Sphere, which can hold 18,600 spectators but only has 304 on-site parking spots, has had its lots up for sale through Ticketmaster for months. It’s expected that all the spots will be filled by the time of the concert.
Alternative Parking Options
Those attending the concert can choose to park at the Howard Hughes Center, located half a mile from the Sphere. With a capacity for 2,000 cars, this facility charges $70 on Sphere concert nights. Parking passes can be purchased at vegaseventparking.com.
Earlier this summer, the Sphere’s limited parking options led the Venetian/Palazzo and Wynn/Encore to end their free self-parking policies. Wynn/Encore now charges a flat $20 fee for non-resort guests, with the first four hours free. The Venetian/Palazzo charges a flat fee of $23 on Fridays through Sundays.
It remains unclear if these resorts will increase their parking rates during Sphere concerts. However, if they don’t, their lots are likely to be overwhelmed by the influx of Sphere attendees, displacing their paying guests.
Circus Circus and Sahara are the only casino resorts within walking distance of the Sphere, located 1.5 and 2 miles away respectively, that still offer free parking. The Fashion Show Mall, located 0.8 miles from the venue, also offers free parking for everyone.
However, it is expected that the operators of these facilities will reconsider their parking policies after this weekend as well.
