A shocking incident occurred during the construction of the grandstand for the upcoming Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix. Tizoc Antonio, a 27-year-old ironworker, tragically lost his life on September 23. The police report reveals that he died while using an electric circular saw to cut through wood near the Bellagio fountains. Accidentally hitting metal caused the saw to fly out of Antonio’s hands and into his neck.
According to the report obtained by KLAS-TV, witnesses at the scene tried to stop the bleeding from the deep laceration caused by the saw, but their efforts were unsuccessful. Antonio lost consciousness and had no pulse. His colleagues performed chest compressions until an ambulance arrived, but it was too late. Antonio was rushed to University Medical Center Hospital in critical condition and pronounced dead at 12:24 p.m.
The police investigation concluded that the incident was an accident, with no signs of foul play or negligence. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is still looking into the matter. Despite it being his first day on the job, Antonio, a member of Ironworkers Local 433, had prior experience working on various projects in Las Vegas, including the Sphere and Durango Casino & Resort.
Prior reports had mentioned Antonio’s cause of death as a “major laceration to the neck” without providing specific details.
