The Indianapolis Colts may have to play without their rookie quarterback, Anthony Richardson, as he suffered a shoulder injury in Week 5. Richardson’s injury could keep him out of action for up to a month.

The injury occurred in the second quarter of the Colts’ AFC South divisional game against the Tennessee Titans. Richardson injured his shoulder after being tackled during a run play and landing on it at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Initial X-rays came back negative, but further testing revealed that Richardson has a grade three sprain on his AC joint in his right shoulder. He is currently seeking a second opinion from renowned shoulder specialist Dr. Keith Meister.

If surgery is required, Richardson may be sidelined for an extended period beyond the initial month. As a result of the injury, Richardson has been ruled out for the Colts’ upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 6.

Richardson’s Season and Minshew’s Impact

Richardson’s injury marks the third time this season that he has been unable to finish a game due to injury. Despite this, he has shown promise as a young quarterback, completing 59.5% of his passes for 577 yards and three touchdowns in four games.

Backup quarterback Gardener Minshew stepped in during Week 5 after Richardson’s injury and led the Colts to a comeback victory. Minshew has a 1-0 record as a starter this season, with his win coming against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 3.

The Colts, currently tied for first place in the AFC South with the Jaguars, will rely on Minshew to lead the team in their upcoming game. The Colts are listed as +4 road underdogs against the Jaguars.

Colts’ Betting Odds and Future

The Colts have a win total of 7.5 over/under this season. According to DraftKings, they have +200 odds to make the playoffs and -250 odds to miss the postseason.

The Jaguars and Colts are both considered contenders in the AFC South, with the Jaguars having -105 odds to win the division and the Colts at +400 odds.

At the start of the season, the Colts were considered long shots with +15000 odds to win Super Bowl LVIII. While their odds have improved slightly since then, they remain unlikely to win the Super Bowl or the AFC Championship.

The Colts’ next game against the Jaguars will be a crucial matchup as both teams fight for the division lead. It will also be a test for Minshew as he faces his former team.

For sports bettors, the Colts are currently 3-2 against the spread this season, while the Jaguars have the same record. Their previous matchup in Week 1 resulted in a Jaguars victory.

With Richardson’s injury and the uncertainty surrounding his return, the upcoming game between the Colts and Jaguars becomes an intriguing betting opportunity for sports bettors.
