Las Vegas magician Dirk Arthur, known for his use of exotic animals in his magic shows, has passed away at the age of 63. His death has left behind a matter of concern: the fate of his six tigers, one snow leopard, two clouded leopards, and one bobcat.

The cats have been removed from Arthur’s ranch, located near the Silverton Casino, by Clark County’s Animal Protection Services. They are currently being relocated to a suitable animal sanctuary for care and well-being.

Animal rights groups, such as People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), have called for the cats to be sent to accredited sanctuaries where they can have ample space to roam and live free from the conditions of stage performances.

Arthur’s death is under investigation by the Clark County Coroner, and the exact cause of his passing has yet to be determined.

The End of an Era

Dirk Arthur’s magic acts with exotic animals were once popular in Las Vegas. However, in recent years, there has been a shift in public opinion towards animal welfare and conservation. The last exotic cat show on the Las Vegas Strip was performed by Arthur and his show “Dirk Arthur’s Wild Illusions.”

Over time, the use of wild animals in entertainment has become less acceptable, and even the famous Ringling Brothers Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus ended its shows with animals in 2017.

Changing Times

Dirk Arthur’s plan to bring back performing big cats to Las Vegas was met with opposition from animal activists. His proposed show, “Magic Unleashed,” faced protests and emails from concerned individuals, ultimately leading to the cancellation of the show.

In recent years, Arthur had been working as an usher at the Westgate, where his show had previously been headlined. His passing marks the end of an era for Las Vegas magic acts involving exotic animals.
