A man from Altadena, California, could face charges of filing a false police report in relation to his claim of being the rightful recipient of the world’s biggest lottery prize, according to a report by The US Sun. The controversy centers around Jose Rivera, who sued Powerball winner Edwin Castro, alleging that he, not Castro, purchased the winning ticket from Joe’s Service Center in Altadena.

Rivera claims that his winning ticket was stolen by his former landlord, Urachi F. “Reggie” Romero. However, Romero denies these allegations. Despite initially declaring Castro as the rightful winner, the California Lottery has reopened the case and is now working with the Pasadena Police Department on a formal investigation.

Winning Numbers

Romero recalls Rivera explaining the significance behind his chosen winning numbers, including 10, 33, 41, 47, 56, and the red Powerball 10. Rivera attributes personal connections to each number, such as the date his parents passed away and his father’s desire for a specific truck model.

However, new developments have emerged. Lisa Derderian, the Public Information Officer for the City of Pasadena, revealed that investigators suspect Rivera of lying about the theft of his ticket and are prepared to take action. The case now awaits potential misdemeanor charges for filing a false police report.

While Castro continues to deny Rivera’s claims, he has been making headlines for his extravagant purchases in Los Angeles. This includes a luxurious $47 million property in Bel Air featuring seven bedrooms, 11 baths, and an infinity pool with stunning views of downtown L.A. Castro’s lawyer, David De Paoli, remains confident that it will become apparent that Castro is the legitimate owner of the winning ticket.
