The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas is bringing back smoking to its casino table games, including the Palazzo. The announcement comes ahead of the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, which is set to take place on November 19. This move is expected to accommodate the high number of visitors the race is projected to bring to town.
Starting November 6, guests at The Venetian and Palazzo casinos will be able to smoke cigarettes, cigars, and vapes while seated at the table games. However, the use of marijuana will remain prohibited.
The Venetian Resort stated that they continuously review and improve their internal policies to remain competitive and strategic. The decision to update the smoking policy was prompted by feedback from guests regarding the previous rules.
The statement also mentioned that players who prefer non-smoking tables will still be accommodated. Requests for non-smoking tables can be made to a table games supervisor or floor manager.
Casino.org’s Vital Vegas was the first to report on the changes regarding table game smoking.
It’s important to note that smoking is only permitted on the casino floors of The Venetian Resort. Smoking is prohibited in all other areas, including the resorts’ suites and pool decks.
F1 Arrival
The Venetian Resort, owned by Vici Properties and operated by Apollo Global Management, is preparing for the upcoming Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, which will take place on November 19. The Venetian and Palazzo, like other major casinos on the Las Vegas Strip, are located near the 3.8-mile circuit that includes a 1.18-mile straightway on the strip where drivers are expected to reach speeds of over 200 mph.
The popularity of Formula 1 is increasing in the US, as seen with the Las Vegas race. Smoking is more prevalent in countries like the UK, Middle East, and Europe, where the sport is most popular.
The decision to allow smoking at table games is likely an effort to accommodate the international visitors expected for the race.
Only Complete Bans Protect Health
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has previously stated that the only way to ensure safe air quality in casinos is to completely prohibit indoor tobacco use. The CDC found elevated levels of dangerous Particulate Matter (PM) in designated smoke-free areas of casinos. Advanced air filtration systems cannot eliminate secondhand smoke exposure.
Even in supposedly non-smoking sections of casinos with both smoking and non-smoking areas, health experts warn of public health risks. Prolonged exposure to secondhand smoke increases the risk of developing complications like coronary heart disease, stroke, and lung cancer.
