In a momentous occasion for hospitality workers, the new workers’ contract at Caesars Entertainment properties in Las Vegas has been approved by an overwhelming majority. This development comes after seven months of negotiations and 20-hour long sessions, praising Caesars Entertainment as a “great partner.”
The cherished contract was approved by 99% of the voting members of the Culinary Union, covering approximately 10,000 dedicated workers. The new improvements include daily room cleaning, paid housekeeping training, and enhanced worker safety. The agreement will see to significant raises without the specific details being revealed.
Pappageorge, secretary-treasurer of the Culinary Union, has expressed the union’s intentions to negotiate for similar labor agreements with other Las Vegas properties. This would be following votes for MGM Resorts International and Wynn Resorts workers regarding their own tentative contracts, both scheduled to be decided this week. The union’s larger objective is to apply the same economic package to other Las Vegas properties, especially downtown properties, which have traditionally paid workers less than the hotels and casinos on the Strip.
In Detroit, workers at Hollywood Casino at Greektown and MotorCity Casino have ratified a five-year contract, while employees at MGM Grand Casino continue to strike after rejecting a proposed deal. The strike began on October 17, with employees from three establishments walking out.
