A notorious blackjack player, Jordan Anthony Rondell, has been sentenced to additional prison time after pleading guilty to intimidating a witness. This witness was his own wife.
Rondell, 36, was part of a team that conspired to cheat the Dakota Sioux Casino out of $10,000 on New Year’s Eve of 2015.
He and his accomplices were convicted, sentenced to six months in prison, and ordered to pay $8,700 in restitution to the casino for theft by employees of a gaming establishment on Indian land.
False Testimony
In January 2023, Rondell was on supervised release when he intentionally harassed another person to prevent them from assisting in a federal court proceeding. Later, his wife filed a motion seeking release to assist with an alleged pre-existing medical problem, which was found to be false testimony.
Prosecutors submitted video footage that showed Rondell violating his supervised release conditions and coaching his wife to provide false testimony to a federal magistrate judge.
Last week, he was sentenced to three years in prison and a year of supervised release for witness tampering.
Inside Job
Rondell was a regular at the Dakota Sioux Casino, where he hatched a plan with dealers Fem Gill and Jeremy Brown to cheat at blackjack.
The two dealers had agreed to pay Rondell for losing and pushed hands, with pit boss Lito Bolocon in on the scam, allowing the cheating to occur.
The conspirators faced a maximum of 20 years in prison before taking a plea deal.
