Maryland casinos saw a 3.5% year-over-year decline in gross gaming revenue (GGR) in November, generating a little over $157.7 million. The report from the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency includes gaming income from slot machines and table games.

Sports betting revenue is reported later this month in a separate filing, and it’s expected to provide some relief for the overall decline in GGR for the month. MGM National Harbor, Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland, and Horseshoe Casino Baltimore emerged as the top revenue generators during the period.

Struggles and Sports Betting

Maryland casinos have seen a combination of slot win increases while experiencing major GGR losses from table games. Despite issues with table games, sports betting has generated significant income, offsetting some of the brick-and-mortar table game losses this year.

Maryland’s sportsbooks have been particularly lucrative since the launch of online wagering, and they are likely to contribute to overall revenue improvement in the sector. Maryland sportsbooks recorded a GGR of $99.4 million from their retail and online operations between July 1, 2023, and Oct. 31, 2023.
