President Joe Biden visited Las Vegas to announce $3B federal aid for a high-speed rail line that will connect the city to California. After years of planning, the project is finally getting done, which will transform travel between Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
Biden’s remarks were met with enthusiasm as he revealed plans for a 218-mile rail line that will carry more than 11M passengers annually.
“The 218-mile rail line will extend between Las Vegas and Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. It is expected to carry more than 11 million passengers annually and is scheduled to be operational before the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles,” Biden said.
He also took the time to meet with UNLV administrators and students following a deadly shooting at the campus and honored two campus police officers who stopped the assailant. He also paid tribute to Nevada troopers who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Remembering Victims
Biden honored the victims of a recent campus shooting and urged for measures to address gun violence, emphasizing the need for legislation. He also took a swipe at former President Donald Trump, the frontrunner among Republicans for the 2024 elections, during his Las Vegas visit.
Fallen Troopers
Biden also paid tribute to two Nevada troopers who were killed recently in the line of duty, while expressing concern about the dangers of alleged intoxicated hit-and-run drivers.
