Hopes for Celine Dion’s Las Vegas return were briefly uplifted when she made her first public appearance at Katy Perry’s last “Play” date at Resorts World. However, a recent report out of France has shattered these hopeful expectations.
Dion, 55, is reportedly battling Stiff Person’s Syndrome, and her older sister has revealed that she “no longer has control over her muscles.” This progressive neurological disorder can have debilitating effects on the body, causing muscle rigidity and spasms.
“Unfortunately, the spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal cords to sing the way I’m used to,” the former record-shattering Caesars Palace headliner said in a tearful video announcing her diagnosis.
Her Hope Will Go On
Despite the challenges, there’s still a glimmer of hope for Dion’s recovery. Her sister has expressed their shared aspirations for the singer to return to the stage in the future.
“It’s true that in both our dreams and hers, the goal is to return to the stage,” said Claudette. “The vocal cords are muscles, and the heart is also a muscle.”
Hope remains important for Dion’s family, but despite working with top researchers, finding a cure or treatment for her condition has proven to be elusive.
