As of December 30, 2023, the details of the arrests in the San Jose gambling raid led by San Jose Police Department (SJPD) are making headlines. Following a Wednesday court-ordered raid, authorities detained five suspects, uncovering numerous illegal activities. Besides illegal gambling, SJPD officers found weapons, suspected marijuana, and a large sum of cash. Debatably much more heartbreaking was the discovery of sex trafficking and prostitution, for which some women were provided with assistance and resources after the raid. While charges against the arrested suspects aren’t released yet, more arrests are expected as investigations continue.

Elsewhere, a separate incident saw a Bozeman, Mont. resident arrested for purportedly robbing a local gaming facility and burglarizing a gas station. Duane Cantwell, 50, was charged with robbery and burglary after robbing the Montana Lil’s Casino and burglarizing an administrative office in Belgrade, Mont. He stole over $2,000 from the casino and caused destruction at the gas station’s office. Surprisingly, he was captured at Gallatin County Fairgrounds when police identified his vehicle.
