Authorities recently arrested one suspect in a robbery incident where two elderly casino winners were targeted and stole a bag of food instead of the $130K they had won at an Illinois casino.
The victims were followed from Rivers Casino Des Plaines to their residence in Fox Lake, Ill. on February 10.
After the victims arrived home, one of the robbers used a gun to steal a paper bag from the male victim, who was then pushed to the ground, according to the Lake and McHenry County Scanner. The robbers fled before escaping in a nearby vehicle.
However, the bag stolen by the robbers only contained leftover food as the cash was hidden in the female victim’s walker.
Police identified one suspect, Michael Britton, 27, of Chicago, who was later arrested on August 28 and charged with several robbery-related offenses.
Michael Theis, a Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney, mentioned that the robbers ended up stealing the victims’ leftover steak and lobster instead of the $130,000 in cash, as reported by the Scanner.
During a court appearance, Judge Theodore Potkonjak praised the victims for outsmarting the criminals in their own way.
The second suspect, Aramie Kent of Maywood, Ill., is still at large with an active arrest warrant. Another accomplice involved in the casino interaction and subsequent robbery is also currently evading law enforcement.
