Former President Donald Trump is projected to have won an historic election victory Tuesday over Vice President Kamala Harris in a wild race for the presidency.

Just hours after polls closed on Tuesday, key states like North Carolina, Georgia, and Pennsylvania got called for Trump by Fox News. Coupled with victories in Republican strongholds, there was a clear path for Trump’s return to the White House.

As of 10:47 p.m. PT, Trump was declared the winner by Fox. Other news organizations hesitated calling the race for Trump. But Harris apparently had lost any viable path to reach the needed 270 electoral votes.

When speaking to enthusiastic supporters, Trump announced, “We made history for a reason tonight… We’re going to have a great four years.”

He predicted a “golden age” for America. He also speculated he could win as many as 315 electoral votes.

Betting Markets Correct, Polls Misleading

Betting markets had predicted a Trump win for weeks. As early as last month, in betting circles, Trump was 62% to win on Kalshi and 66% on Polymarket.

In Canada, OLG’s Proline reported that 52% of money was on Trump, 35% of money was on Harris, and the rest was split among other candidates as of late October.

But public opinion polls indicated the race between the two leading candidates was neck and neck. For instance, a poll released on Monday predicted that Harris would win. The PBS News/NPR/Marist poll showed Harris was to have gotten 51% of likely voters while Trump was to have lost with 47%, the national poll predicted.

One sign that Trump could win were exit polls released on Tuesday afternoon. CNN exit polls revealed only one-quarter of those interviewed nationally were enthusiastic or satisfied with the state of the nation. But more than four in 10 were dissatisfied and some three of 10 called themselves angry.

Many were particularly concerned about the economy, illegal immigration, and the cost of groceries, gasoline, and healthcare, according to national surveys done by Fox News.

Trump has apparently won the White House despite his 2020 loss to Joe Biden, two recent assassination attempts, and criminal indictments.

Harris took over as the Democratic candidate in July once Biden, under pressure, chose not to run for reelection.

Harris’s campaign announced on Tuesday she would make a statement about the election on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the US Senate also was flipped to the Republican Party, CNN reported.

Nevada Results Delayed

Nevada’s election results were unknown early Tuesday night due to multiple-hour delays for voters in some polling locations in the state.

Election sites in Nevada were supposed to close at 7 p.m. PT, but long lines in Nye and Washoe counties were extending the cutoff for those who showed up in the early evening to cast their votes.

As of Tuesday night, Trump was leading in Nevada by over 50K votes, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal. Final results were not available.
