Renovations are currently in progress to convert the Delano into the W Las Vegas. This conversion is expected to continue until mid-December, with renovations planned to last until 2028.
By 2027, all rooms and suites at the W Las Vegas will be renovated to meet “W standards,” as per an internal MGM Resorts memo obtained from Vital Vegas. The entrance, lobby, coffee stand, front desk, and a hallway leading to the W will all be remodeled.
The Delano Beach Club will be refreshed and rebranded as the W Wet Deck, and the Skyfall rooftop lounge will also receive updates while retaining its name.
Similar to the Delano and THEhotel, the W Las Vegas will be a non-gaming property located within Mandalay Bay, in close proximity to the casino, negating any perceived competitive disadvantage.
Bonvoy Benefits!
The transformation signifies an expansion of the collaboration between MGM and Marriott International, the owners of the W brand. Earlier in the year, the two companies introduced the MGM Collection with Marriott Bonvoy, allowing some MGM properties to be booked through Marriott’s website and mobile app.
The memo from MGM mentioned that the W will be added to the MGM Collection, enabling Marriott Bonvoy members to receive benefits during their stay.
Announced in July 2023, the licensing deal encompasses MGM’s 17 domestic properties, including those on the Las Vegas Strip and its regional casino hotels.
During the first-quarter results announcement in May, MGM CEO Bill Hornbuckle expressed satisfaction with the Marriott partnership, stating that it had exceeded expectations and was anticipated to drive growth throughout the year.
Double W
The upcoming W Las Vegas will be the second W property in the city, following a previous partnership with SLS Las Vegas controlled by Sam Nazarian from 2014 to 2019. The initial attempt at a W hotel within the SLS tower operated from 2016 to 2018 before the property was acquired by the Meruelo Group and reverted to the Sahara name.
