Reports indicate that a portion of a building collapsed at Bally’s Evansville Casino & Hotel in Indiana after a motor vehicle plunged through a parking garage and onto a conference center.
Initial news reports state that at least one person sustained injuries in the incident. The driver was able to exit the vehicle without assistance.
Local media coverage mentioned a significant water leak that occurred as a result of the incident. However, the water supply was promptly shut off to address the issue.
Vehicle Crashed through Wall
Allegedly, the vehicle crashed through a wall on the garage’s uppermost floor, believed to be the seventh floor, before plummeting into the conference center, as per preliminary information.
The event was described as a “partial structure collapse” in a post at 8:45 am on EvansvilleWatch, a local news website.
According to EvansvilleWatch, “Part of the roof has collapsed on the 2nd floor. One caller mentioned it’s the roof leading from the parking garage to the hotel near the escalator.”
Vehicle Landed Upside Down
The vehicle landed upside down in the hotel-casino’s Executive Conference Center, according to WEHT, a local TV station. The vehicle came to a stop atop an escalator, the report disclosed.
During the incident, a conference was taking place in the center.
The Evansville Fire Department deployed multiple units, including one trained in addressing structure collapses. Firefighters were conducting assessments for potential gas leaks.
Additionally, a search revealed that there were no individuals trapped inside the building, as reported by EvansvilleWatch.
Emergency response personnel confirmed that all security and casino staff were safely located following a search.
There were indications that a segment of the building’s western wall was missing, according to WEHT’s coverage.
Initial reports also negated the occurrence of a structure collapse in the parking garage.
Upon the incident, Evansville Police Department officers swiftly arrived at the scene, evacuating both the garage and the affected section of the building.
Moreover, traffic in the surrounding area was redirected.
Reactions on Social Media
Various individuals shared their thoughts regarding the occurrence. One social media user, identified as Gin Stanley, remarked:
They’ve been doing construction on the parking garage for a long time. The upper levels have been closed for ages. I don’t know when they reopened them for vehicles. It’s been years since I even tried to go higher than the second level.”
Another individual, Diana Peerman, expressed, “I am praying for everyone involved that they … will be ok.”
