After performing at the Rio for 22 years, the Chippendales are moving to the Linq on the Las Vegas Strip. The opening day at illusionist Mat Franco’s theater will be on January 14. They have performed around 9,000 times for bachelorette and divorce parties at the Rio.
Katerina Tabakhov, Chippendales’ director of operations, expressed excitement about their move to the Strip. She mentioned, “We are thrilled to be back in the Caesars Entertainment family and moving to our new home on the Strip.”
In 1979, Chippendales became the first all-male dance revue to primarily market itself to female audiences. They joined the Rio roster in 2001 and have sold over 1 million tickets and ripped off more than 275,000 tank tops during their time there.
Although Caesars Entertainment sold the Rio to Dreamscape Companies in 2019, Chippendales continued to perform there until October 2023 when the operations were taken over by Dreamscape.
Unionization Efforts
On October 8, the Vegas Chippendales announced their plan to unionize due to substandard wages and lack of health benefits.
The dancers leading the unionization effort stated, “We love Chippendales but believe our current situation isn’t meeting industry standards.” The Actor’s Equity Association filed a complaint against the show’s producers to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) for unfair labor practices related to the unionization efforts.
Both Caesars Entertainment and Dreamscape are union shops, and it is unclear whether the unionization efforts are related to the move to the Linq. The Mat Franco Theater at the Linq can accommodate 575 people, compared to the Rio’s Chippendales Theater with a capacity of 400.
Starting January 14, Chippendales will perform at the Linq at 9 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, with additional shows at 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. Tickets are available for purchase ranging from $57.96 to $117.95 on Ticketmaster.com.
