A young lady was taken into custody for reportedly shooting and killing an Uber driver on the Las Vegas Strip after a road rage incident on Monday afternoon.
The victim passed away on the scene due to neck injuries. He was not immediately identified but was described as a man in his 50s.
The incident unfolded when two vehicles were both driving on Las Vegas Boulevard in an area where road construction is ongoing.
A quarter of a mile down the road, both vehicles stopped at Las Vegas Boulevard and Palazzo Drive in front of the Palazzo at the Venetian Resort.
The Uber driver exited his grey Jeep Cherokee and approached the woman’s car.
He knocked on the driver’s side window of the silver Subaru WRX. The driver, in her 20s, pulled out a gun and shot him at 4:04 p.m. He passed away at the scene.
The victim was armed but collapsed on the street before being able to shoot his gun.
Police obtained the license plate of the Subaru. The driver of the Subaru drove away and was later found by authorities at her residence.
The shooter, whose name was not revealed, was questioned by local police. As of now, no charges have been pressed against her.
Two passengers in the Subaru were unharmed.
Parts of Las Vegas Boulevard were shut down while authorities investigated the shooting. The road was reopened later that Monday night.
The victim will likely undergo a post-mortem examination to confirm the cause and manner of death.
Escalation in Road Rage Violence
During a press conference on Monday night, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) Lt. Jason Johansson advised that “there’s a lot of road construction happening in the valley right now,” so drivers should remain patient.
We’re starting to see a slight increase in some of these road rage incidents, involving shootings and even murders,” Johansson added.
“Everyone should practice patience. None of this is worth your life over a road rage incident.”
McDonald’s Homicide
About 45 minutes after the road rage shooting, another homicide occurred at a McDonald’s near the Strip, roughly a mile from the earlier fatal shooting, as per Las Vegas TV station KSNV.
The victim was shot inside the Paradise Road restaurant. They were rushed to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries.
Authorities are on the lookout for two suspects who were also present in the McDonald’s. They had an altercation with the victim, leading one of them to shoot. Both suspects fled the scene before law enforcement arrived.
Both suspects are African American males. One was dressed in a black shirt or hoodie with a black baseball cap. The other was wearing a green shirt/hoodie and a green baseball cap.
