Caesars Virginia, a $750 million project by Caesars Entertainment and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), announces the delay in opening its doors until December 17.

Originally scheduled to open this week, the 320 hotel rooms at the resort will also be available for guests starting next Tuesday. The reason for the delay has not been disclosed by Caesars.

Chris Albrecht, General Manager of Caesars Virginia, acknowledges the disappointment among eager guests for the delay and thanks everyone for their patience. The team is working diligently to ensure a successful opening.

Guests with reservations for the original opening week express frustration over the sudden change in plans by Caesars Virginia.

One Facebook comment criticizes the last-minute alteration of plans, stating it is not a good start for the new establishment.

Caesars responds by reaching out to affected guests to reschedule their trips or provide refunds for their bookings.

Criticism Over Room Rates

Casino.org’s previous coverage on the opening of Caesars Virginia sparks discussions on the high room rates, starting at $999 before taxes and fees. The total cost for a two-night stay in a basic room, including taxes and resort fees, reaches $2,370.56.

Room availability on the Caesars Virginia website shows sold-out status from December 17 to December 20. Many initial bookings may have been complimentary for Caesars Rewards members, with rooms reserved for key personnel during the opening event.

At the grand opening, former NBA player Dennis Rodman will place the first bet at the Caesars Sportsbook, followed by a fireworks display to mark the occasion. The historic Three Sisters smokestacks on site will also be illuminated during the festivities.

Guests can explore the gaming floor at Caesars Virginia, featuring 1,500 slot machines, 79 live dealer tables, a sportsbook, and a World Series of Poker Room. After Rivers Casino Portsmouth and Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Bristol, Caesars Virginia is the third permanent casino in the state.

Continued High Rates

Following the opening, weekend rates at Caesars Virginia remain high. For a reservation from Friday to Sunday, the total cost, including taxes and fees, amounts to $2,736.32.

Room rates are expected to decrease in the new year, starting at $299 for midweek stays and $599 for weekends. However, these prices may still be considered steep for accommodation in Danville.

Comparatively, a two-night stay at the nearby Hampton Inn, rated highly with an 8.8/10 score on Kayak, costs $183 per night, inclusive of taxes and fees.
