UNLV has officially received the donation from Sands, and the establishment of the Sands Institute for Chinese Language and Culture was approved by the Nevada System of Higher Education Board of Regents during a recent meeting.

The Sands Institute for Chinese Language and Culture at UNLV will be a valuable resource for students, scholars, and the community to delve into the rich cultural heritage of China. This initiative aims to enhance Chinese cultural literacy and promote intercultural dialogue in one of the world’s most prominent cities and dynamic universities, as stated by Sands Chairman and CEO Robert Goldstein.

The Sands Institute will provide various programs and courses focusing on the Chinese language, culture, traditions, and history. Offerings include Mandarin language courses, cultural events like film screenings and art exhibitions, and opportunities for student and faculty exchanges.

The institute will be located in UNLV’s recently renovated Maryland Administrative Building.

Sands’ Asian Investments

While Las Vegas is in its name, Sands no longer operates any casinos in Las Vegas or the US. The company divested its US properties and now focuses on its integrated resort (IR) casinos in Macau and Singapore.

As the world’s largest casino operator by market capitalization exceeding $40 billion, Sands is continuing its investments in Macau and Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

Sands is currently investing heavily in its properties in Macau and Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

Under the leadership of Dr. Miriam Adelson, Sands plans an $8 billion expansion of Marina Bay Sands, known as the gold standard in integrated resorts. Additionally, Sands is investing $3.5 billion in non-gaming projects in Macau.

Focus on the US

In the US, Las Vegas Sands is pursuing a casino license on Long Island at the Nassau Coliseum and advocating for commercial gambling legalization in Texas.

In late 2023, Dr. Adelson acquired a majority stake in the NBA Dallas Mavericks and expressed interest in building a new arena with an integrated resort in Texas if the state legalizes the industry.
