Unauthorized Incidents at Rivers Casino Parking Lot
Authorities are searching for suspects involved in two robberies that occurred last weekend at Rivers Casino Des Plaines in Illinois. Both incidents occurred early Saturday, according to Chicago TV station WMAQ.
In one of the robberies, two masked individuals arrived in a white Nissan Altima and approached a 32-year-old resident from Itasca, Illinois. A firearm was brandished and pointed at the victim’s abdomen. The perpetrators took the victim’s cell phone, driver’s license, and two credit cards.
Shortly after, the same suspects targeted a 57-year-old resident from Skokie, Illinois, revealed Chicago TV station WGN.
Both suspects displayed firearms. One of them demanded that the victim “hand over all your belongings.”
Initially hesitant, the victim eventually complied, and the robbers made off with his wallet and approximately $2,000 in cash.
Fortunately, neither victim sustained any injuries during the incidents. The perpetrators fled the scene in their vehicle.
Misappropriated Funds for Wagering, Confirms Police
A former secretary/treasurer for Gregg Township, Pennsylvania, faces charges for embezzling $532,747.67 through unauthorized use of town credit cards.
Pamela Hackenburg, 55, from Millmont, Pennsylvania, was apprehended on November 27 on charges including theft, receiving stolen property, identity theft, and access device fraud, according to Spotlight PA.
Hackenburg allegedly spent the stolen funds on sports betting. Starting in January 2023 and continuing monthly, about $20,000 in expenses at DraftKings were charged to the town’s credit cards.
Jim Smith, the town’s emergency management coordinator, became suspicious after reviewing a town credit card statement and promptly alerted First National Bank.
Following an investigation, Hackenburg was placed on unpaid leave in May. The town subsequently enlisted the services of accountants to conduct an audit.
A police report described Hackenburg’s office as locked and disorganized, stating, “There were piles of papers, old checks signed but not deposited, no filing system, and nothing was up to date,” based on information from Spotlight PA.
Hackenburg allegedly concealed credit card balances within town expenditures, fabricated budget figures, and redirected funds from a $500,000 road project loan, as detailed by law enforcement officials.
The news report indicated that Hackenburg could be terminated as soon as this week. If convicted, she could face imprisonment.
