As the 45th Ryder Cup Matches approach next month, Team USA maintains its position as the betting favorite, although the odds for the host nation have tightened slightly.

On Wednesday afternoon, US Captain Keegan Bradley unveiled his six captain’s selections. In a surprising move, he chose not to include himself, opting instead to focus on his leadership role, thus avoiding becoming the first playing captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963.

Several of Bradley’s selections were expected. Justin Thomas was nearly a guaranteed pick, as was Collin Morikawa, who, despite not securing a win in 2024 and recording only four top-10 finishes, was just shy of automatic qualification for this prestigious event.

Ben Griffin, who ranks ninth on the US Ryder Cup points list—three spots shy of an automatic qualifier—was also selected by Bradley. Maverick McNealy, Brian Harman, and Andrew Novak were not chosen in favor of New York native Cameron Young, who currently holds the 14th spot.

Patrick Cantlay and Sam Burns, occupying the 15th and 16th slots respectively, rejoin Team USA as they aim to reclaim the Cup after a two-year hiatus.

These captain’s choices will add to the automatically qualified players: Scottie Scheffler, J.J. Spaun, Xander Schauffele, Russell Henley, Harris English, and Bryson DeChambeau.

Changing Odds

Historically, the home team has been favored in Ryder Cups, and with the match play scheduled to return to US grounds in Long Island, Team USA has long held the edge for the matchup between September 25-28. However, as the event draws closer, oddsmakers have adjusted their lines due to increasing wagers on Team Europe.

Last month, FanDuel had Team USA’s odds at -145, implying a 59.2% chance of winning, meaning a player would need to bet $145 to win $100 if the US emerges victorious. Following Bradley’s captain picks, FanDuel updated Team USA’s odds to -130, signaling a 56.5% probability, with only $130 needed to win $100. Meanwhile, Team Europe’s odds have shifted to +145, and a tie is set at +1100, with Europe retaining the Cup in case of a draw.

Team Europe, featuring Rory McIlroy, Robert MacIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Rasmus Hojgaard, and Tyrrell Hatton, is steadily closing the odds gap.

Returning champion Captain Luke Donald is set to announce his six captain’s picks on September 1. It’s likely that Jon Rahm, Shane Lowry, Sepp Straka, Ludvig Aberg, Viktor Hovland, and Matt Fitzpatrick will be among the chosen, as they all performed on the victorious 2023 team and are in good form.

If these players represent Europe, the entire lineup, except for Hojgaard, will possess prior Ryder Cup experience. In comparison, Team USA will feature first-timers Spaun, Henley, Griffin, and Young.

US Betting Odds Favorability

Ryder Cup betting odds can fluctuate between the US and Europe, as bettors often favor their home team. However, in 2025, both European and UK sportsbooks have also marked Team USA as the favorite.

William Hill currently lists Team USA at 8/11 (-138) and Team Europe at 11/8 (+138).
