- Blue Jays’ AL East Division Odds Shift Dramatically from -5000 to -115 in Just One Week
- Jays Listed as -114 Favorites Tonight Against Red Sox
This morning in Toronto sports, anxiety runs high as the previously leading Blue Jays have seen their command in the American League East division vanish completely.

Blue Jays Seeing a Downward Trend
The Jays have faltered, losing six out of their last ten games. Tonight, they confront the Boston Red Sox in the last match of a three-game series, with Louis Varland, a relief pitcher, taking the mound.
Offensively, the Jays have struggled significantly, managing only three hits in one game and four in another, as the Red Sox dominated with a 7-1 victory yesterday following a 4-1 win on Tuesday.
Max Scherzer has encountered difficulties in the first inning once again, casting doubt on the reliability of their starting rotation.
Shane Bieber’s next appearance has been delayed, raising concerns regarding his elbow, which has undergone Tommy John surgery. Meanwhile, Jose Berrios finds himself grappling with confidence issues after being moved to the bullpen, and Chris Bassitt is sidelined due to back pain.
AL East Title Odds Tightening
After a convincing 8-1 victory over the struggling White Sox, the Yankees are set to conclude that series tonight in New York, with Carlos Rodon (17-9) facing off against Davis Martin (7-10). ESPN BET currently lists the Yankees at -310 on the moneyline with the White Sox at +250.
This morning, the Yankees and Blue Jays find themselves tied for the AL East lead. Should the season end in a tie on Sunday, the Jays would win due to holding the tiebreaker advantage over New York.
Jays Pin Hopes on Relief Pitcher Tonight Against Red Sox
While the Jays have secured a playoff spot, unless immediate improvements are made, they risk losing the AL East title. This outcome would also mean missing the bye into the ALDS, along with the chance to rest their lineup, and instead facing a best-of-three wildcard series.
It is clear—tensions are high as they head into a 7 p.m. EST clash against the Red Sox, who will start Brayan Bello (11-8).
BetMGM Morphed Odds Significantly
Just last week at BetMGM, the Jays were favored at -5000 to win the AL East while the Yankees were at +2200. Following the Red Sox’s success against them, the odds shifted to Jays -325, Yankees +240. Now, they sit at Jays -115 and Yankees -115.
After tonight’s matchup, the Jays will host the Rays for three final games, while the Yankees will finish their season against the Orioles, giving an edge to New York.
Jays’ manager John Schneider noted previously that there’s no reason for alarm.
However, the situation appears critical, and sportsbooks are certainly reflecting that sentiment.
Vlad Ejected Amidst Tension
“We’ve had to swiftly modify the division odds due to the Yankees’ rise and the Blue Jays’ struggle nearing the finish line. Over 70% of the wagering money is currently on New York for the AL East,” stated Halvor Egeland, Trading Manager at BetMGM.
Jays’ star Vladdy Guerrero Jr. received an ejection for contesting balls and strikes, which isn’t the best image for a team under such pressure.
At Caesars Sportsbook, the odds for the Yankees to clinch the division were +475 as of Sunday, down from +230 before yesterday’s game, and now stand at a pick’em at -110 for either team.
“The Yankees’ division odds saw significant movement yesterday, likely driven by the belief that their remaining schedule is manageable. With the Jays still possessing the tiebreaker, it promises to be an exciting finish!” remarked Matt Torchia from the Caesars Sportsbook team.
Heavy Betting on Yankees, According to DraftKings
As per Johnny Avello, Director of Race & Sportsbook Operations at DraftKings, this situation warrants attention similar to watching the Kansas City Royals take on the Detroit Tigers; adjustments are a necessity.
“The Yankees are a team under constant scrutiny and heavy betting throughout the season. Just weeks ago, the Blue Jays were at -240, but now the Yankees are closing the gap, prompting a surge in betting on New York,” he remarked.
Is the recent line shift a sign of skepticism towards the Jays or optimism about the Yankees?
“It’s really a mix of both,” Avello indicated. “It’s a bet against the Jays and a bet for the Yankees. While there was some doubt regarding the Yankees’ capabilities, their recent performance shows they possess one of the top road records in baseball.”
If the Jays can pull off three wins in their next four games, Avello believes they could still maintain a good chance at winning the division, emphasizing he doesn’t foresee the Orioles managing to take more than one game in their upcoming series against the Yankees.
