- October marks Breast Cancer Awareness Month
- Casinos in Atlantic City are participating in various activities for the cause
October is designated as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the nine casinos in Atlantic City are joining forces to promote this crucial initiative focused on research and early detection of breast cancer.

Launched in 1985 by the American Cancer Society in collaboration with the pharmaceutical company Imperial Chemical Industries—now AstraZeneca—October has become the national focus for raising awareness about breast cancer. Atlantic City casinos are again stepping up to this important theme with a range of activities.
“Breast cancer affects families in every corner of the nation, but thanks to advancements in treatment and detection, more individuals are surviving. Each October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Atlantic City casinos collaborate with our staff, patrons, and the larger community to promote awareness and spotlight this vital cause,” remarked Mark Giannantonio, president of the Casino Association of New Jersey (CANJ) and Resorts Casino Hotel.
“The casinos in Atlantic City are dedicated to supporting revolutionary research, enhancing early detection efforts, and providing care for everyone impacted by this illness,” Giannantonio continued.
Pink Illuminations
Throughout October, casinos in Atlantic City will shine pink lights on their hotel towers and building façades.
Pink has become synonymous with breast cancer awareness. The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure began handing out pink ribbons in 1991, and the color is often associated with femininity and compassion.
Borgata, Caesars Entertainment’s three venues (Caesars, Harrah’s, and Tropicana), Ocean, Hard Rock, and Resorts will all illuminate their properties in pink hues. At Golden Nugget, male team members will don pink attire and compete to raise funds for breast cancer research.
Hard Rock is introducing a pink cocktail throughout the month, with a portion of the sales going to breast cancer initiatives. Caesars is offering a similar pink cocktail, committing $1 from each drink to the American Cancer Society’s Men Wear Pink campaign. Resorts is also featuring a pink cosmopolitan, contributing proceeds to the American Cancer Society.
Golden Nugget plans to contribute gaming vouchers to Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, while Resorts will provide their voucher buckets to the Men Wear Pink initiative in Greater Philadelphia.
Additionally, Borgata and Caesars properties are offering complimentary on-site mammography screenings for their team members.

Breast Cancer Facts
Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among women in the U.S. (excluding skin cancers) and constitutes about 30% of all new cancer cases in women annually, according to the American Cancer Society.
The organization reports over four million breast cancer survivors in the United States, including those currently undergoing treatment as well as those who have completed it.
The five-year survival rate for localized breast cancer (the earliest stage on the SEER scale) exceeds 99%. However, for metastatic breast cancer, where the disease has spread to distant organs such as the lungs, liver, or bones, the five-year survival rate drops to 32%.
