Red Rock Resorts is making significant enhancements to its Durango Casino & Resort. While work is ongoing for a previously announced expansion that includes an extra 25,000 square feet of casino space and a 2,000-space parking garage, the company has submitted plans to Clark County for yet another extension of the two-year-old facility.

The proposed expansion of 152,000 square feet will occur across multiple levels and will feature:
- An additional gaming floor along with a bar
- A cinema located on the second floor
- A bowling alley, billiards room, and entertainment area on the ground floor
- A full-service restaurant with an outdoor patio
- Several common areas and mezzanine-level entertainment venues
According to the company’s submission to the Clark County Zoning Commission, these additions are aimed at enhancing the existing resort amenities, ensuring guests have a wider assortment of entertainment and dining choices.
This expansion will align Durango with the standards seen in Red Rock Resorts’ flagship locations, including Red Rock Casino Resort & Spa in Summerlin and Green Valley Ranch in Henderson.
The planning commission is set to review the expansion request during its meeting on October 22 and has already indicated its support for the project. Construction is anticipated to commence by July 2028.
Growth of Local Casinos
Durango Casino & Resort opened its doors on December 5, 2023, situated on a 71-acre site in the rapidly developing southwestern part of Las Vegas Valley — a region that had been lacking a comprehensive luxury resort.
Before Durango’s arrival, only small local casinos and taverns catered to the area.
In July 2025, Red Rock Resorts announced exceptional earnings for the second quarter, achieving $108.3 million in net profits, marking a 55% increase compared to the same timeframe in 2024. This performance exceeded Wall Street forecasts by over 8%.
Alongside Boyd Gaming’s solid Q2 results, this underscored a broader trend, as local-focused casinos outperformed those on the Las Vegas Strip during an otherwise subdued summer for tourism this year.
