- Patriots and Colts making headlines with significant Super Bowl line shifts
- Increasing buzz surrounding Patriots QB Drake Maye as a potential MVP
- Chiefs emerging again as top Super Bowl contenders
As Week 9 of the NFL season approaches, key discussions in the betting arena focus on the surprising performances of the Indianapolis Colts (7-1) and the New England Patriots (6-2).

“The Colts and Patriots have surprised everyone this season,” remarked Christian Cipollini, Senior Manager at BetMGM. “Both teams have seen their Super Bowl odds improve after impressive starts. Surprisingly, bettors have been hesitant to back either team, making their potential victories significant for sportsbooks.”
As of Wednesday at BetMGM, notable shifts in Super Bowl odds include the Kansas City Chiefs moving from +750 to +450, the Detroit Lions from +850 to +600, the Indianapolis Colts from +10000 to +1100, and the New England Patriots from +12500 to +3000.
Chiefs Keep Super Bowl Top Spot
The highest ticket percentages at BetMGM come from the Lions (10.8%), the Buffalo Bills (10.2%), and the Baltimore Ravens (8.2%). Meanwhile, the Bills hold the top handle percentage (12.6%), followed by the Lions (11.1%) and the Philadelphia Eagles (10.0%).
In a notable wager, a bettor at BetMGM placed $10,000 on a Lions-Patriots Super Bowl matchup at +6600 odds, aiming for a payout of $660,000.
At ESPN BET, the Chiefs lead as Super Bowl favorites at +475, whereas the Lions have seen their odds decrease from +650 to +600 after a bye week, maintaining their status as the second-best odds for Super Bowl victory.
The Bills have announced that defensive tackle Ed Oliver is sidelined indefinitely due to a torn left bicep, a significant blow to their Super Bowl aspirations.
“Heading into Week 9, the Kansas City Chiefs remain the front-runners for the Super Bowl, despite currently owning a 5-3 record. This might seem strange for a team with three losses, but it’s not unexpected,” stated Joey Feazel from Caesars Sportsbook. “Currently, if the Chiefs faced the Colts on a neutral field, they would be favored by 2.5 points.”
Drake Maye’s Rising MVP Status
The Packers have moved up from +750 to +700 in MVP odds, surpassing the Bills, which dropped from +700 to +800.
Other top contenders include the Eagles (moved from +1000 to +900), Colts (from +1200 to +1000), and Los Angeles Rams (from +1200 to +1000).
Patrick Mahomes continues to top the regular-season MVP odds after the weekend, shifting from +135 to +155. Drake Maye has improved his standing significantly, moving from +700 initially to +400, now tied with Josh Allen.
Baker Mayfield has seen his odds drop from +750 to +1300, while Daniel Jones has shifted to +1400 from +1800. Matt Stafford remains steady at +1400, and Dak Prescott’s odds have plummeted from +1800 to +7500.
Additionally, Jonathan Taylor has seen a significant rise in MVP considerations, jumping from +4000 to +1600, now holding the 7th-best odds.
