- Local man from Abiquiú accused of kidnapping girlfriend at gunpoint from a casino.
- Victim reports being assaulted with a bat at a location known as Devil’s Playground.
- Authorities reference extensive violent history, request pretrial detention for Jaramillo.
An Abiquiú resident is now facing serious charges of kidnapping and battery after allegedly forcing a woman out of the Ohkay Hotel Casino at gunpoint and brutally assaulting her while under the influence of fentanyl, as reported by The Santa Fe New Mexican.

Juanito Toby Jaramillo, aged 44, has a lengthy criminal history of violent offenses spanning two decades, which includes previous convictions for kidnapping and rape, according to prosecutors.
On November 7, he confronted his girlfriend at the casino, roughly 30 minutes north of Santa Fe, accusing her of being unfaithful. Following their dispute, casino security escorted the pair off the premises, at which point Jaramillo compelled the woman into his vehicle at gunpoint, as noted in the court documents.
Stepdaughter Present, Not Charged
Authorities later discovered that Jaramillo’s stepdaughter was in the back seat during the incident. She was also under the influence of fentanyl and allegedly threatened the victim with a knife, as per the victim’s statement.
Jaramillo reportedly assaulted the woman in the vehicle before driving her to an area colloquially known as “Devil’s Playground.” The victim indicated that she was forced onto a collapsed tent laid on the ground, where Jaramillo’s stepdaughter struck her with a baseball bat while he threatened her with a firearm and struck her with the gun, as stated by the prosecutors.
Further, Jaramillo transported the victim to a deserted location, threatening to murder her and dispose of her body there, according to legal filings. Eventually, the assailants fell asleep in the car, allowing the victim to escape and seek assistance from a nearby property.
Jaramillo was taken into custody and booked at the Rio Arriba County jail on November 19. His stepdaughter, mentioned in arrest documents, has yet to face any charges related to this incident.
Criminal Background
Prosecutors are advocating for Jaramillo to remain incarcerated based on his past criminal record. In 2009, he pled guilty to kidnapping associated with the abduction, assault, and rape of a woman. His sentence was 18 months in prison, but he was released as he had already served 19 months awaiting trial.
His convictions also include burglary, drunk driving, assault, and weapons offenses, alongside drug-trafficking allegations that were later dismissed.
