- The New Jersey gambling hub reported nearly 15 inches of snow since yesterday evening
- The storm is tapering off this morning, with the worst of the snowfall coming to an end
The blizzard that struck Atlantic City in 2026 did not meet the official criteria, as visibility was not reduced to below a quarter-mile. Nonetheless, the storm brought significant snow and wind gusts reaching 56 mph overnight, making February 22-23 a memorable event.

All nine casinos in Atlantic City remained operational as guests and employees braved the storm together.
The Showboat casino extended complimentary parking for Atlantic City residents relocating their vehicles along designated snow emergency routes.
Snowfall totals nearly reached the anticipated 15-24 inches announced before the arrival of Winter Storm Hernando. By Monday at 8:30 a.m., the National Weather Service reported a total of 14.5 inches at Atlantic City International Airport.
Latest Updates from Atlantic City
Officials from Atlantic City advise the public to refrain from travel to facilitate the safe operation of snowplows and emergency services.
Parking restrictions remain in effect on designated snow emergency routes, including Atlantic Ave., Martin Luther King Blvd., Ohio Ave., Indiana Ave., Melrose Ave., Arctic Ave., Fairmount Ave., and Baltic Ave. Vehicles found on these roads will be towed.
City Hall and other municipal buildings will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, with no trash pickup scheduled for Monday.
“We urge everyone to prioritize safety, avoid roadways, and remain indoors,” stated Scott Evans, the fire chief and emergency operations coordinator for Atlantic City.
Inside the casinos, operations continue as normal, featuring active slot machines and table games, along with most resort amenities.
However, adverse weather has caused some service interruptions; for example, Resorts has announced Dougherty’s Steakhouse & Raw Bar will be closed today. It’s recommended to check in advance regarding the operational status of restaurants and amenities.
Weather Records in Atlantic City
This 2026 snowstorm was on track to potentially alter Atlantic City’s weather records.
The largest snowstorm in this casino city took place in February 1978, when 20.1 inches blanketed the resort town. The devastating Feb. 5-7 nor’easter led to over 100 fatalities across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast, alongside damages surpassing $2.5 billion (adjusted for 2026 inflation).
Sustained winds reached 86 mph, with gusts hitting 111 mph, officially categorizing the storm as a Category 5 “Major” Blizzard. The National Centers for Environmental Information ranks the February 1978 blizzard as the 15th most impactful in its Winter Storm Events Database, dating back to January 1950.
The record for the highest single-day snowfall in Atlantic City stands at 18.4 inches, observed on December 26, 2010.
