- Tottenham’s decline shifts 200-1 relegation odds into a risky scenario for bookmakers.
- Spurs linger just above the relegation line after suffering their fifth consecutive Premier League loss.
- Early wagers could lead to significant winnings if Tottenham faces relegation.
UK betting operators are bracing for losses should Tottenham Hotspur continue their downward path, risking relegation to the lower tier of English football.

At the start of the season, Spurs were listed at 200-1 odds for relegation, but following their 3-1 loss to Crystal Palace on Thursday—and with Nottingham Forest and West Ham, positioned below them, gaining points—that risk is becoming alarmingly plausible.
With only eight matches remaining, Spurs are perched just one spot above the relegation zone, holding a mere point advantage over Forest and West Ham. Their relegation odds have now shifted to 13/8.
Consecutive Losses
For Tottenham supporters, the situation is troubling, with signs suggesting that both Forest and West Ham are gaining strength as the season nears its end, while Spurs appear fatigued and disoriented. The defeat by Crystal Palace marks Tottenham’s fifth consecutive loss—their longest losing streak in the Premier League era in over twenty years. Remarkably, the reigning Europa League champions have yet to register a win in 2026.
To make matters worse, their rivals from North London, Arsenal, are sitting seven points clear at the top of the table, and are in contention, albeit remotely, for an unprecedented “quadruple”—comprising the league, the League Cup, the FA Cup, and the Champions League.
UK sportsbook operators report that several bettors placed wagers on Spurs to be relegated when such odds still seemed a far-fetched notion. This has placed Tottenham in a precarious position for sportsbooks, particularly as the relegation betting market is relatively sparse with fewer high-volume bets.
Bookmakers dread longshots turning into realities. In the 2015-16 season, they incurred significant losses when Leicester City clinched the Premier League title at 5000-1 odds, marking one of the most famed betting upsets in history.
“Spurs’ alarming predicament continues to worsen. Ahead of their match against Crystal Palace, they have now become our worst outcome in the relegation market,” said Lee Phelps, spokesperson for William Hill.
“Betters have been quick to back them for relegation over time, with some wagers placed as high as 200-1 earlier this season, making them a considerable risk for us.”
Unlikely to Relegation?
The initial long odds were rooted in the current landscape of English football: clubs like Spurs, with significant resources, almost never face relegation. Financial power, especially in wage budgets, strongly influences Premier League stability, with top-six clubs usually guaranteed a comfortable mid-table finish or better.
Tottenham ranks among the financial elite, and none of the so-called “big six” teams have been relegated since the league’s inception in 1992.
The sudden emergence of relegation as a tangible risk is precisely why the early odds of 200-1 now appear astonishing and highlight why bookmakers feel uneasy as scenarios they initially deemed unlikely inch closer to reality.
