PENN Entertainment has announced plans to inaugurate its brand-new land-based Hollywood Casino Aurora on June 24, subject to regulatory approvals. This fresh brick-and-mortar establishment will replace PENN’s previously operated riverboat on the Fox River.

The $360 million entertainment venue, strategically located near Interstate 88 and directly across from the Chicago Premium Outlets, marks PENN’s second newly constructed property in the Chicagoland area, following the opening of Hollywood Casino Joliet in August 2025.

“We are just months away from unveiling another premier entertainment venue in the greater Chicago area,” stated Jay Snowden, CEO and President of PENN Entertainment. “Following the successful launch of Hollywood Casino Joliet last summer, we are excited to debut another land-based facility, enhancing our retail offerings in the Midwest and reinforcing our commitment to the local community.”

This new casino resort will feature a 226-room hotel, over 1,200 gaming positions, a retail sportsbook, spa services, outdoor entertainment areas, and a 12,000-square-foot event center. Additionally, the property is expected to generate approximately 700 job opportunities, nearly doubling the current workforce in Aurora.

Dining options will be a significant attraction, with celebrity chef Giada De Laurentiis set to launch “Sorella by Giada,” an innovative Italian-California fusion restaurant. Other culinary establishments will include offerings from Stephanie Izard and other partners at Boulevard Food & Drink Hall, showcasing a blend of local favorites and exciting new dining experiences.

PENN’s Senior Vice President of Regional Operations, Rafael Verde, remarked: “These renowned restaurateurs will offer our guests exceptional dining experiences at the new Hollywood Casino Aurora. Along with our hotel, event center, spa, and other amenities, visitors will enjoy a lively atmosphere at this upcoming destination.”

The event center is set to accommodate conferences, weddings, and entertainment shows, with reservations already in progress. Initial public events are expected to be announced shortly.

PENN Entertainment will share more information regarding the grand opening as June 24 approaches. The company is in discussions with the Illinois Gaming Board to transition operations from the existing riverboat Hollywood Casino Aurora on the Fox River to the new land-based venue.

The project is supported by funding from Gaming and Leisure Properties Inc., which will contribute $225 million at a 7.75% capitalization rate around the time of the opening. The City of Aurora is also providing $50 million, with the remaining $21 million expected to come in by year-end.
