Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of the iconic band Kiss showcased their plans for an avatar performance at the Pollstar Live concert trade show last week. This unique show is set to take center stage in Las Vegas in 2028.

The projected cost of this groundbreaking show, titled “Kiss Forever,”, is expected to be around $200 million, mirroring the expenditure of ABBA’s notable avatar residency in London. The Swedish music investment firm, Pophouse, is backing both initiatives and acquired the rights to Kiss’ music and likeness for $300 million in 2024.

While specific venues are yet to be confirmed, it has been stated that Sphere will not be one of them.

“Many wondered, ‘Why not choose the Sphere?’” Stanley reportedly commented. “The Sphere, for me, reduces a band, creating a miniaturized experience. Attendees are not there to see a band but to focus on screens.”

“We aim to merge cutting-edge technology while maintaining our prominence. This will be an entirely different experience than watching a small representation of a band on screens. It’s a complete contrast to that.”

There’s a belief that Stanley’s critique of one of the country’s most exceptional venues was influenced by Sphere CEO James Dolan’s decision to reject the project, but this interpretation is speculative.

Moreover, as highlighted by Casino.org’s own Vital Vegas, investing $200 million in a simulated concert for a band whose latest live Las Vegas residency—12 performances at Planet Hollywood in 2021—had to be scrapped due to poor ticket sales is a considerable risk.

Even with dedicated followers, the band may not possess the “inactive legend” allure necessary to attract a diverse audience to a projection show consistently.

A version of “Kiss Forever” may very well take place, but it will need to have a reduced budget and be located at a mid-range casino resort instead of a venue as unique as Sphere.
