- theScore Bet debuted in Ontario as the market launched in April 2022
theScore Bet has been recognized as one of the pioneering companies granted approval as a licensed igaming operator by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis (AGLC). Their mobile sports betting and online casino platform is poised to open when the province’s market activates on July 13.

Exploring Sports Betting and Online Casino Offerings
The announcement regarding theScore Bet was made earlier today by Jay Snowden, President and CEO of PENN Entertainment Inc. during a financial earnings call.
PENN Entertainment launched theScore Bet in Ontario on the exact day the market opened—April 4, 2022, at 12:01 a.m.
“We continue to observe favorable trends in Ontario, showcasing year-over-year growth in average monthly active users, online sports betting revenue, and iCasino income,” stated Snowden. “These results highlight the strong presence of theScore Bet brand across Canada and support our revamped digital strategy, setting a promising outlook for the upcoming July 13 launch in Alberta.”
Pioneering the Ontario Market
theScore Bet has been validated as a registered iGaming operator by the AGLC, and pre-registration initiatives have commenced in the province.
Last week, DraftKings confirmed the availability of their online sportsbook and casino products for the Alberta market launch. Several other prominent brands have also indicated early entry, with some already initiating pre-registration—these include BetMGM, BetRivers, Betway, NorthStar, Betty, PointsBet Canada, and FanDuel.
Anticipating the July 13 Launch in Alberta
“We are thrilled to be among the first private, licensed operators to gain the green light for online gaming in Alberta,” said Adam Kates, Vice President of Compliance at PENN Interactive. “Our team has worked diligently in preparation for theScore Bet’s launch, and we are eager to deliver an exceptional sports betting and iCasino experience to the residents of Alberta from day one.”
theScore Bet is currently operational in 20 U.S. states in addition to Canada.
Alberta’s new igaming regulatory framework promises to be competitive and transparent, akin to Ontario’s model. AGLC will act as the primary regulator, while the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) will oversee and manage private operators, prioritizing player protection, advertising guidelines, and self-exclusion practices.
