- Sorsby is among the top-rated quarterbacks projected for the 2027 NFL Draft
Reports from ESPN indicate that state gaming regulators in Indiana and Ohio are probing Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby’s suspected gambling activities.

NCAA’s Strict Gambling Regulations
The NCAA has launched its own investigation into Sorsby, who is presently in a residential program to address gambling addiction issues.
The NCAA enforces rigid sports betting regulations. Student-athletes are expressly forbidden from wagering on both professional and collegiate sports, risking permanent loss of eligibility if they gamble on their own team or other sports affiliated with their university. Additional penalties can lead to multi-year suspensions and loss of eligibility seasons.
Allegations suggest that Sorsby has placed thousands of bets across multiple sports through betting applications, including wagers related to Indiana football during his redshirt freshman year in 2022.
Implications for the 2027 NFL Draft
According to reports, Sorsby has engaged attorney Jeffrey Kessler to assist him in regaining his college eligibility. Kessler, a renowned sports attorney, has a notable track record litigating against the NCAA, particularly in antitrust matters.
Previously, Kessler represented Tom Brady during the infamous “Deflategate” saga in 2015 when Brady was with the New England Patriots and advocated for NFL players during the controversial “Bountygate” incident in 2012, when New Orleans Saints players ran an illegal incentive scheme rewarding defensive players for injuring opponents.
Sorsby is part of an emerging group of skilled quarterbacks joining the Big 12, with numerous teams expected to change their starting QBs. Many anticipated that he would guide Texas Tech toward playoff contention.
After a stellar season at Cincinnati, where he recorded over 2,800 yards and 27 touchdowns, earning a spot on the 2025 All-Big 12 Second Team, Sorsby transferred to Texas Tech in December.
Wagers in the Thousands
The situation also carries significant NFL consequences for Sorsby, who has already completed four years in college. He is currently ranked as the No. 5 quarterback in the 2027 NFL draft by Sports Illustrated, trailing only Drew Mestemaker from Oklahoma State, LaNorris Sellers from South Carolina, Arch Manning from Texas, and Dante Moore from Oregon.
In addition, Sorsby is among the highest-earning college quarterbacks, drawing $5 million annually.
