Fans of Martin Scorsese’s acclaimed 1995 crime drama “Casino” have only a few days left to enjoy the film before it exits Netflix.
As the largest streaming service globally, Netflix has announced that “Casino” will be removed during this month’s content refresh. The platform regularly updates its library, with licensing agreements generally lasting only a short period.
“Casino” was added to Netflix on March 1 and will no longer be available to stream in under two weeks, on Monday, June 1.
Post-June 1, viewers wishing to see “Casino” will need to purchase or rent the film through platforms like Amazon Prime Video or the Apple TV Store.
Casino Films to Watch
While several films feature Las Vegas and its casinos, a select few, like “Ocean’s Eleven,” “Casino Royale,” and “Rounders,” capture the essence of classic Vegas, with “Casino” standing out as the quintessential tale.
The movie portrays the lavish yet harsh reality of Las Vegas during the mob era of the 1970s and 1980s. “Casino,” alongside “Mean Streets” and “Goodfellas,” is deemed one of Scorsese’s groundbreaking works in the gangster genre, paving the way for later hits such as “Gangs of New York,” “The Departed,” and “The Irishman.”
The story centers around Sam “Ace” Rothstein, played by Robert De Niro, a sports handicapper selected by the Chicago Mafia to operate their casino in Las Vegas. Ace becomes romantically involved with Ginger McKenna, portrayed by Sharon Stone, a con artist whose substance issues complicate both their professional and personal lives.
Although Ace succeeds in increasing the casino’s earnings, he struggles with Nicky Santoro, played by Joe Pesci, a ferocious mob enforcer whose violent behavior attracts the attention of law enforcement.
Scorsese Making a Comeback on Netflix
Though “Casino” will soon leave Netflix, Scorsese is set to return with a dynamic new series developed in collaboration with the creators of “Billions.”
Scorsese is an executive producer for “The Roman,” which stars Oscar Isaac, Betty Gilpin (“Death by Lightning”), Alec Baldwin (“The Departed”), and David Costabile (“Billions,” “Breaking Bad”). This eight-episode series delves into the “high-stakes atmosphere of Las Vegas.”
Creators/showrunners/co-executive producers Brian Koppelman and David Levien of “Billions” are well-versed in gambling narratives, having made their writing debut with the 1998 cult classic “Rounders.”

This hour-long drama is set in the fast-paced, competitive present-day Las Vegas casino industry, depicting a modernized yet still perilous version of the iconic city.
