The Michigan Gaming Control Board (MGCB) has purchased an additional 100 complimentary Gamban licenses for residents, responding to the significant interest in the online gambling prevention software introduced last month.
Over 80 of the initial 100 licenses were claimed soon after the program’s launch, which led the agency to broaden the availability of the gambling-blocking tool.
Gamban is a software designed to block access to gambling websites and applications on various major devices and platforms, including Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS. It is engineered to be challenging to uninstall, enabling users to limit gambling content on limitless household devices with a single license.
MGCB Executive Director Henry Williams stated, “The quick response from Michigan residents in the initial weeks of this initiative surpassed our expectations, indicating a true necessity in our communities.” He added, “We swiftly acquired another 100 licenses so that every resident seeking this support can receive it. Michigan is devoted to providing the highest level of protection to the communities we serve as legal gaming expands.”
The MGCB collaborated with Gamban in April, offering free licenses lasting between one and five years to residents of Michigan without necessitating enrollment in a self-exclusion program. This initiative aimed at eliminating financial obstacles for individuals in need of resources to address gambling-related issues.
The software effectively blocks access to an extensive variety of gambling platforms, such as online casinos, sports betting websites, poker, slot machines, social casinos, cryptocurrency-based gambling, and NFT wagering, including unregulated and offshore sites.
“The strong interest in this program demonstrates that residents seek accessible, device-level support — and we will continue to provide it,” remarked Williams. “These new licenses mean more Michigan residents can reclaim control, at no cost.”
Michigan residents can obtain a free Gamban license by visiting the official website, selecting the free license option, and establishing a Gamban account. Upon registration, they can download and install Gamban on all personal devices, covering unlimited devices within the household. Technical support is readily available to assist with installation.
This Gamban initiative is part of the MGCB’s broader commitment to responsible gaming, which also encompasses the Responsible Gaming Database for online self-exclusion, the Disassociated Persons List implemented at Detroit casinos, and the “Don’t Regret the Bet” public awareness initiative.
