Puerto Rico has recently become part of the National Voluntary Self-Exclusion Program (NVSEP). This initiative aims to facilitate the process for individuals wanting to restrict their access to gambling activities in various jurisdictions.

Set to be implemented in June, this program will enable Puerto Ricans to voluntarily add their names to a centralized exclusion list, effectively blocking their access to casinos, sports betting, and other licensed gaming services.

This initiative reinforces the goals of the Comisión de Juegos del Gobierno de Puerto Rico to enhance gaming regulation and bolster responsible gaming measures.

“Puerto Rico has developed one of the most vibrant and dynamic gaming markets in the area, supported by solid leadership and a lively culture that makes it unique,” stated Jonathan Aiwazian, CEO of idPair.

“We are privileged to support the Comisión de Juegos in broadening the avenues available for responsible gaming protections, and we anticipate simplifying the self-exclusion process for users while optimizing the experience for operators who already handle exclusion data through the idPair platform used in other areas.”

Juan Carlos Santaella Marchán, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Gaming Commission, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, noting that the project fortifies public policy objectives concerning responsible gaming.

“Our intent has consistently been to deliver accessible resources for those seeking help with gambling issues,” he remarked. “This initiative aligns with the ongoing work we’ve engaged in since I took office, including our Responsible Gaming educational efforts.”

The NVSEP is characterized as a system that streamlines what has typically been a complex process. Instead of individuals having to sign up separately for different exclusion systems, NVSEP offers a unified registration platform. After registration, participant information is securely shared with involved operators through the idPair platform to facilitate exclusion requests and ensure regulatory adherence.

The goal of the system is to enhance both user experience and operator reporting requirements while safeguarding individual privacy and autonomy.
