A violent altercation on Memorial Day at the Bally’s Kansas City Casino parking lot has led to murder charges against one individual.

Officials in Jackson County, Missouri, have charged 26-year-old Grant Lubin from Overland Park, Kansas, with second-degree murder and armed criminal action related to the deadly shooting of 45-year-old Richard Miller.
Court documents indicate that Kansas City police were called to investigate a shooting in the parking garage around 11:45 PM on May 25. When they arrived, they found Miller unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers provided assistance while emergency medical services were summoned. Sadly, Miller was pronounced dead at a local hospital shortly after.
Incident Captured on Surveillance
The sequence leading up to the shooting was recorded by the casino’s security cameras, according to court documents. The footage depicted a confrontation between Miller, another man, a woman, and two other men along with a woman as Miller’s group exited the casino.
Authorities reported that a heated verbal exchange escalated when one man dashed to a car and returned with a handgun concealed in his waistband.
Miller was then assaulted with punches before responding by hitting one of the men and kicking him while he was on the ground. Although Miller briefly got inside a vehicle, he returned when the two women engaged in a fight. Court documents reveal that Miller charged towards the women, shoved them against a wall, and struck one of them.
Subsequently, the armed individual pointed the handgun at Miller and another man, firing a shot at the ground near Miller’s feet. After allegedly hitting one of the women several more times, Miller retaliated, knocking one of the men out.
The armed individual then shot at Miller, striking him as he turned to flee toward his car. Following the incident, the group departed the scene in two separate vehicles.
911 Emergency Call
An hour post-incident, a man called 911 to report an assault on his girlfriend, indicating she needed medical assistance. He also mentioned firing warning shots toward the assailant and ultimately shooting the man when he charged at him.
A Jackson County judge set Lubin’s cash bond at $100,000. Lubin’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 10 for a bond review, with a preliminary hearing planned for July 1.
