Wynn Announces UAE Casino Opening Scheduled for September 2027

Shares of Wynn Resorts (NASDAQ: WYNN) surged during after-hours trading on Tuesday, following the casino operator’s impressive second-quarter earnings that exceeded analysts’ expectations, while also shedding light on the future of its integrated resort in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Investors responded positively to the earnings report for the June quarter, which featured updates about the $5.1 billion Wynn Al Marjan Island. As the first regulated gaming facility in the Middle East, it has faced scrutiny due to ongoing geopolitical tensions in the region, but recent developments may have quelled some of those concerns.

“Wynn Resorts, in collaboration with our partners in Ras Al Khaimah, are excited to reveal that Wynn Al Marjan Island, the most anticipated integrated resort to be unveiled in over a decade, is set to welcome guests in September 2027,” stated CEO Craig Billings.

In the early days of the conflict, the company warned stakeholders that the situation in Iran could lead to a “minor delay” in the opening of the casino resort in Ras Al Khaimah.

Wynn Resorts Provides Essential UAE Update

Markets typically react negatively to uncertainty, and this has been a significant issue for Wynn Al Marjan Island since the outbreak of war in Iran. Early in the conflict, Iranian military actions targeted locations in the UAE, including luxury resorts, which led Wynn to halt construction and raised concerns among investors. Some analysts noted that the casino operator’s stock didn’t adequately reflect the strong long-term prospects in the UAE.

Along with announcing the September 2027 opening timeline for the UAE casino hotel, Wynn also informed investors about its financial involvement in the project.

“In the second quarter of 2026, the Company provided $48.1 million in cash to the 40%-owned joint venture that is constructing the Wynn Al Marjan Island development in the UAE. This brings our cumulative cash contributions to the project to $1.06 billion,” noted the Las Vegas-based gaming operator.

Wynn Resorts’ Q2 Performance Shines

Amid a mixed bag of earnings reports from casino operators, Wynn Resorts stood out, reporting earnings of $1.24 per share on revenue of $1.86 billion for the June quarter, exceeding analysts’ forecasts of 98 cents per share on sales of $1.83 billion.

In a challenging environment for Macau casinos, Wynn’s two properties there reported increased revenue during the June quarter, while a roughly $44 million rise in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization, and restructuring or rent costs (EBITDAR) at Wynn Palace countered a $1 million decline at Wynn Macau.

In Las Vegas, revenue grew by $4.6 million to $643.2 million, even though EBITDAR declined to $215.2 million from $234.8 million compared to the previous year. Encore Boston Harbor also saw a slight reduction in both revenue and EBITDAR.
