Las Vegas introduces another smoke-free gaming destination.
The Palms Casino Resort, located off the Strip, revealed today (Aug. 12) its plans for a smoke-free gaming enclave. This space will feature 224 of the most modern and sought-after slot machines and will be accessible 24/7.
“Listening to our guests is vital, and enhancing our non-smoking gaming choices has been a consistent request. This innovative area is designed to offer cutting-edge games, a dedicated bar, and a fresh gaming experience at Palms,” stated Kevin Glass, General Manager of Palms Casino Resort.
The smoke-free gaming area is slated to open to the public on Monday, Aug. 24, with a special grand opening event featuring a celebrity charity slot tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 1. This smoke-free space will be conveniently located near the William Hill Sportsbook and Tonic Bar.
Smoke-Free Casinos in Las Vegas
As smoking rates in the U.S. decline to all-time lows, finding smoke-free casinos in Las Vegas can still be a challenge.
The only completely smoke-free casino on the Las Vegas Strip is Park MGM. In downtown Las Vegas, the Plaza Hotel & Casino provides a fully enclosed smoke-free gaming area, albeit with fewer than 100 machines.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown, MGM Resorts chose to transform Park MGM into the Strip’s first smoke-free casino resort when it reopened on Sept. 30, 2020. Formerly known as the Monte Carlo, Park MGM debuted on May 9, 2018, after a major $550 million renovation.
Park MGM stands as the smallest of MGM’s nine Strip casinos, featuring a 66,000-square-foot gaming area with just under 800 slot machines and 60 table games.
Grand Opening for a Cause
The Palms Casino Resort is under the ownership of the San Manuel Gaming and Hospitality Authority (SMGHA), a branch of the Yuhaaviatam of San Manuel Nation. The forthcoming smoke-free area will encompass 7,300 square feet of the casino’s total 95,000-square-foot space.
On Sept. 1, starting at 4 p.m., Palms and slot machine manufacturer IGT will sponsor the Spin It Forward Celebrity Charity Slot Challenge. Ten charitable organizations from Southern Nevada will each receive $2,500 from SMGHA. Additionally, each charity may select to receive an extra $1,000 from IGT, or have a designated celebrity play $1,000 in complimentary slot play on behalf of the organization to potentially increase their donation.
Participating charities include Heaven Can Wait Animal Society, UNLV Chapter of Advancing Indigenous Science & Engineering Society, Proud to Rescue Benevolent Fund, Southern Nevada Joint Management Culinary & Training Fund, S.A.F.E. House, PBS Southern Nevada, The Ability Center, Make-A-Wish Southern Nevada, Springs Preserve Foundation, and Teach For America Nevada.
