Encore Boston Harbor Employees Warn of Possible Strike

Encore Boston Harbor may face disruptions from Sept. 1 if Wynn Resorts does not agree to a new collective bargaining agreement with the property’s largest unions.

According to Casino.org, Unite Here Local 26 and Teamsters Local 25 will conduct a strike authorization vote among their 1,350 Encore Boston Harbor employees on Aug. 19-20. If the majority of union members authorize the strike, a walkout could begin anytime after midnight on Sept. 1.

The Encore Boston Harbor unions will reveal the election results at the Knights of Columbus in Charlestown on Thursday evening at 545 Medford Street.

It is highly likely that the vote will support authorization, as a similar vote in 2023 received 98% approval. A strike was prevented when Wynn Resorts and the unions reached an agreement before the contract expired.

During negotiations, union leaders advocated for wages exceeding the $25-an-hour minimum and enhanced pension benefits.

Wynn previously told Casino.org that the company’s culture emphasizes providing competitive, livable wages.

“Our company believes that only talented and empowered employees, working in a valued and well-compensated environment, can offer our signature Wynn and Encore guest experiences,” said a company spokesperson.

Labor Agreements End on Aug. 31

Wynn Resorts’ agreements with Unite Here Local 26 and Teamsters Local 25 expire on Aug. 31. The unions are asking for higher wages and improved benefits, citing their contribution to Encore Boston Harbor’s financial prosperity.

“Encore brought in $847 million in Boston last year. This week, the workers who operate the resort will vote on whether to strike for a simple idea: that funds should remain in our community. Boston is not Wynn’s personal bank,” stated the unions to Casino.org.

Union members include workers in various roles at Encore Boston Harbor, such as housekeepers, cooks, servers, bartenders, and slot attendants.

The Wynn Resorts casino, which opened in June 2019 with a $2.6 billion investment, is one of the only five Forbes Five-Star hotel properties in Greater Boston. Located in Everett, Encore Boston Harbor is across the Mystic River.

Encore Boston Harbor Performance

Encore Boston Harbor is Wynn Resorts’ sole domestic property not situated on the Las Vegas Strip. Wynn’s venture in Massachusetts has been highly successful, as the casino leads the state’s gaming sector.

In 2025, Encore Boston Harbor generated total revenue of nearly $846.9 million, with the casino component contributing over $629.2 million. The property earned $90.7 million from hotel room sales, $79.1 million from food and beverage, and $47.9 million from entertainment and retail.

Encore Boston Harbor achieved adjusted EBITDA of $236.7 million, reflecting a 4.2% decrease from 2024 ($247.1 million).

Last year’s operating results were lower than in 2023 ($257.4 million) and 2022 ($243.4 million) in terms of EBITDA.
