Wynn Las Vegas to Shut Down ‘Awakening’

Awakening is set to close permanently on October 10th. The technologically advanced production at Wynn Las Vegas never quite met expectations and will be ending its run after struggling to attract audiences.

Reportedly losing Wynn Resorts between $150,000-$200,000 each week, Awakening failed to attract enough viewers to sustain itself. The casino giant could no longer afford to subsidize the show in the current business landscape.

Wynn officially announced the closure, stating that a new production will take over the theater in 2027. While details about the upcoming show are scarce, it is anticipated to be more cost-effective.

A Re-Rêv

Debuting on November 7, 2022, Awakening was a grand production at Wynn Las Vegas, costing an estimated $150 million. Despite featuring advanced technology and a star-studded cast, the show struggled to fill seats and connect with audiences.

Even after adjustments to the script and incorporating more entertainment elements, such as acrobatics and comedy, Awakening continued to face challenges in attracting viewers.

Performers of the show were informed of the closure during a company-wide meeting, with the opportunity to audition for future productions at Wynn. This news comes shortly after Cirque du Soleil announced the closure of Mad Apple at New York-New York, following a similar trend of expensive shows being replaced due to financial constraints.
