HBO is developing a new casino drama series called Advantage Player, featuring Riley Keough in a starring role. Keough will also be an executive producer of the show.

This series is based on the upcoming memoir by professional gambler Gina Fiore titled Advantage Player: Blackjack, Backrooms, and Beginnings, set to be released on Oct. 27, 2026 by Gillian Flynn Books, an imprint of Zando/Penguin Random House.

Fiore, who began her journey as an advantage player by learning card-counting while working as a blackjack dealer on the Las Vegas Strip, spent 24 years using skill-based techniques to beat casinos legally.

“Gina Fiore has lived an incredible life that seems almost unbelievable,” said Keough in praise of Fiore’s book. “Her story is gripping and memorable — and Advantage Player is a tale you won’t soon forget.”

Exploring ‘Advantage’ Strategies

Advantage play involves legal techniques like card-counting and hole-carding that provide skilled players with a mathematical advantage over the house. Fiore, who will also be involved in the production of the HBO series, navigated through this secretive world, leading teams that extracted millions from casinos while adapting to evolving surveillance methods, rules, and the risk of detection and banning.

According to Deadline, Keough’s portrayal of Fiore is that of a “brilliant misfit who finds a way to outsmart casinos at their own game.”

The series will be written and co-executive produced by Will Graham, known for his work with Keough in the Emmy-nominated limited series Daisy Jones & the Six on Prime Video.
