July Sees Record CAD$9.884 Billion in Ontario iGaming Bets


Ontario’s iGaming market achieved a milestone in July, reaching a record of CAD$9.884 billion in total wagers, driven by a 6% increase in casino play.

The betting activity during the World Cup also contributed to the growth in numbers, with games across Mexico, Canada, and the United States taking place from June 11 to July 19. Sportsbooks experienced record handle numbers during the tournament.

iGaming Ontario reported a 4% increase in total cash wagers compared to the previous month.

Gaming Revenue Hits $413.6 Million

The non-adjusted gross gaming revenue (NAGGR) for July totaled $413.6 million, reflecting a 3% rise from the previous month. NAGGR represents the amount of revenue retained by operators from gambling activities before deducting various expenses.

The number of active player accounts increased by 3% to 1.365 million in July, with an average revenue per active player account remaining steady at $303 compared to the previous month.

Casino handle reached $8.78 billion, marking a 6% increase from June and accounting for 89% of the market share. Sports betting handle amounted to $992 million, showing a 4% decrease from June and holding a 10% market share. Peer-to-peer poker saw a handle of $116 million, down by 8% from the previous month, capturing a 1% market share.

In terms of NAGGR, casinos generated $330.4 million, a 4% monthly increase and an 80% market share. Sports betting NAGGR was $77.8 million, representing a 1% decrease from June with a market share of 19%. P2P poker recorded a NAGGR of $5.3 million, a 3% increase from June, commanding a 1% market share.

Currently, the Ontario-regulated iGaming market boasts 48 licensed operators, with 83 gaming websites operational and open for betting.

Introduction of Hard Rock Bet

A significant development in the industry in July was the launch of Hard Rock Bet in Ontario, offering a combination of sports betting and an online casino featuring over 3,000 games, including popular slots, table games, and live dealer options.

This launch marked the brand’s initial venture into international markets, connecting it to the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Ottawa, which commenced operations in July 2025.
