Ohio Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton expressed her willingness to expand online casinos if elected, emphasizing the need for strong regulation, protections for young people, and restrictions on predatory advertising.

Acton believes that online gambling could generate revenue to support proposals aimed at reducing the cost of living and funding essential services. Her views were shared in an interview with Statehouse News Bureau.

“I see it as a revenue source that can support the necessary proposals to lower the cost of living in our state and fund the services we require,” Acton stated.

A doctor and former state health director, Acton emphasized that any expansion must come with stronger safeguards.

“As a doctor and public health professional, I want to ensure there is a proper regulatory environment. I aim to stop the type of predatory advertising we are witnessing and ensure the protection of our youth,” she added.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has also weighed in on gambling, with a focus on responsible implementation to protect Ohioans.

Acton’s statements reflect her campaign stance rather than a specific legislative proposal. Neither candidate has provided specifics on an online casino bill, tax structure, player safeguards, or advertising regulations.
