A woman in Florida is taking legal action against the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood after slipping on liquid on the casino floor as fans were leaving a concert by DJ Kygo.
Jeanne O’Grady from Broward County has filed a negligence lawsuit against the Seminole Tribe of Florida in Broward County Circuit Court on September 10. She is seeking over $50,000 in damages and a jury trial.
The incident took place on May 2, 2025, during Kygo’s concert at the 7,000-capacity Hard Rock Live as part of the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix weekend. The electronic music star, famous for songs like “Firestone” and “It Ain’t Me” with Selena Gomez, performed at 8 p.m.
O’Grady, working as a greeter at the concert, claims that as the show ended, thousands of attendees were released through the main exit past the sportsbook and onto the casino floor. Her manager directed her to leave with the crowd, and she allegedly slipped on liquid, causing her to fall.

According to the lawsuit, O’Grady underwent surgery for her injuries, with medical expenses totaling $136,884.90.
The lawsuit accuses the Seminole Tribe of Florida of failing to properly maintain walking surfaces as the concert crowd dispersed. It also points out that the presence of alcohol at the venue makes spills foreseeable, as customers are allowed to carry open drinks between the areas.
This case sheds light on the unique legal framework surrounding personal injury lawsuits against tribal casinos.
While Native American tribes generally have sovereign immunity from lawsuits, the gaming compact between Florida and the Seminole Tribe permits patrons to pursue certain tort claims arising at tribal gaming facilities.
O’Grady initially submitted a Gaming Patron Tort claim to the Tribe’s risk management department in June 2025, but it was denied by Tribal First, the Tribe’s third-party claims administrator, claiming no legal liability. Her workers’ compensation claim was also rejected by the Tribe.
O’Grady is now pursuing the matter through Florida state court.
