The Las Vegas Sphere has unveiled the enhancements for The Wizard of Oz set to debut next Friday (Sept. 25). Producer Ben Grossmann emphasizes the need to create an immersive experience within the land of Oz.

The upgrade aims to provide a fresh experience for viewers during the 75-minute loop of the production. The theater, known as the most technologically advanced, has added new features to enhance the overall experience.
While maintaining the essence of the movie, the theatre now offers a more engaging environment for the audience.
These six new additions complement the existing effects such as tornado winds, haptic seats, and flying monkeys, which have been captivating audiences since opening day in August 2025.
1. Monkey Business 2.0
The highlight of the upgrade is the new version of the flying monkeys. The animatronic monkeys in the updated production provide a more dynamic and menacing experience as they fly over the audience. Unlike the previous inflatable monkeys, these new ones have more lifelike movements and expressions.

2. Scented Scene Changes
An underrated enhancement is the addition of scents that coincide with scene changes. The introduction of new scents enhances the transition between different parts of the movie, creating a more sensory-rich experience for viewers.

3. Glinda’s Glitter Gulch
Introducing “Glinda’s Glitter,” a visual spectacle where glitter cascades down during a crucial moment in the movie. This glitter shower serves as a memorable and magical addition to the production.
It also serves as a perfect excuse for anyone covered in glitter after attending the show.
“Oh, didn’t I mention we saw the new Wizard of Oz, honey?”

4. More Hot Air
Enhanced with aerial effects, the production now incorporates fireworks during a key scene involving Dorothy’s departure. The addition of fire elements complements the existing visual effects and adds depth to the storytelling.
Previously, columns of flames were utilized in another scene to enhance the dramatic impact.
5. Apple of My Nose
In a unique twist, falling foam fruit now emits the scent of apples, adding another dimension to the audience’s experience. This subtle yet impactful addition enhances the overall sensory experience for viewers.
6. Drones Flutter By?

Surprise additions include drones disguised as butterflies, adding an extra layer of visual appeal to a significant scene in the production. Expect these drones to enhance the magical transformation of the movie as Dorothy enters the colorful world of Oz.
These enhancements contribute to a more engaging and immersive movie experience for viewers at the Las Vegas Sphere.
What’s Not Coming
Despite previous teases, the rumored “broomstick ride with a witch” enhancement did not materialize in the updated production. It seems that this feature was delayed or excluded from the final version of “Wizard 2.0”.
Speculations suggest that this immersive video simulator may have been intended for pre-show entertainment but did not make it to the final cut.
