Loto-Québec saw a 2.1% increase in total revenue for the first quarter of fiscal 2026-27, amid an upcoming election that could reshape Quebec’s gambling sector.

Overall, the Crown corporation’s total revenue rose by CA$16.1 million to reach CA$782.6 million, while net income increased by 3.6% to CA$398.1 million.

Revenue and Net Income Growth

Casinos stood out as the top performing segment, with total revenues of CA$337.6 million, up 4.4% from the previous year.

CEO Jean-François Bergeron credited this success to increased foot traffic during peak festival season when warmer weather attracts more visitors.

“We are pleased with the progress at the start of the fiscal year, driven by the dedication of our teams who are expanding our offerings responsibly,” he noted. “The strong performance in the casino sector reflects the appealing nature of our offerings. Our aim is to continue providing a diverse and engaging entertainment experience responsibly.”

Strong Quarterly Growth in Casinos

Lotteries saw a revenue increase of CA$241.1 million (up 2.1%), while gaming establishments brought in CA$208.4 million (a decrease of 1.8%).

Gaming establishments encompass video lottery terminals in licensed bars, Kinzo, and network bingo.

The total revenue figures also include results from online casino and sports betting, with sports betting falling under the lottery segment and online casinos under the casino segment.

Focus on Sports Betting

Highlighting the NHL playoffs and the World Cup, Loto-Québec mentioned key events that impacted its quarterly performance.

The upcoming election holds potential for significant changes in the province’s iGaming landscape, as indicated by recent polls.

According to a recent Leger poll released on Sept. 22, almost two-thirds of Quebecers are in favor of a change in government. The election is set for Oct. 5.

Election Impact on iGaming

The Parti Québécois (PQ) leads with 29%, followed by the Le Parti liberal du Québec at 23% and the current La Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) government at 20%.

Both the PQ and Liberals have expressed plans to revamp the iGaming sector by giving the regulator authority to license and oversee all online gambling platforms in Quebec. They also aim to introduce a competitive model similar to Ontario, allowing Loto-Québec to compete with other operators.
